The Trojan Women

  • lyric hammersmith (map)

‘Where are our politicians? Where are our activists?

Hiding away in bliss? Avoiding their commission?’

A local councillor works tirelessly at the local foodbank, passionately supporting people from all walks of life. Amidst the shelves, their team of dedicated volunteers come together to support their communities. Two MPs watch over the nation, deciding its fate and observing its destruction.

Spirits falter. Power slips through fingertips. A community under strain.

This mesmerising reimagining of a classic tale by Dipo Baruwa-Etti, (shortlisted for Evening Standard, George Devine, and Alfred Fagon Awards) has been commissioned by the Lyric for our SPRINGBOARD 2024 trainees. Directed by Roberta Zuric, The Trojan Women reimagines this Greek classic through a modern lens that speaks directly to the condition of today’s society.
