A performance sound designer/artist with 20+ years of experience & more than 200 national & international production credits. I specialise in dance, headphonic audio & performance for early years. My practice centres on themes of ecology, personal stories and place.
I have been working in the area of performance sound since 2003, this followed a training in classical music and a BA in Sound and Image Design at Rose Bruford. My passion is creating powerful/beautiful/curious images and worlds and exploring new ways to tell stories with a team of great collaborators.
I worked as company Sound Designer and Composer with Dance/Alternative Theatre company PanicLab between 2008 and 2016 (and continue with Choreograher Joseph Mercier on his solo projects). I found joy and magic in collaboration, devising and theatre making, this has led me to specialise in this kind of work when I can. In 2017 I worked with Oxford Samuel Beckett Award winners mars.tarrab on their show Roller at the Barbican Pit. I continue to work with Rachel Mars on her solo projects, most recently peforming a live soundscape for FORGE at the Barbican, for MAYK and at Edinburgh Festival as part of the Horizon Showcase.
In 2016-2018 I had the opportunity to work with Director Neil Bartlett on two shows: Stella (part of Lift Festival, Brighton fringe and Holland Festival) and The Plague at the Arcola. Working with Neil really was a masterclass in how I could harness the dramaturgical power of sound.
I have a longstanding relationship with The Egg -Theatre Royal Bath, creating work for and with young people, also delivering a 5 week series of workshops on Sound Design for Theatre and a special one off NT Connections Sound Workshop. I was also a designer/mentor on Coneys' 'The Droves' project which sought to find out if children can create immersive theatre for adults. For the past few years I have designed and mentored for Kiln (Tricycle) Theatres community and young peoples companies as part of their Takeover Festival 2016, Mapping Brent 2018 and for their Minding the Gap projects.
Other areas of past sound design/composition work include short film, headphonic walks, smart phone based adventures, podcasts, audio drama, DJ for Baby Raves and music for hypnotherapists. I designed 24 hours of sound for an installation at Burning Man Festival and had the lead sound design role for an app based Audio tour of London (Unreal City Audio).
Nominated for Best Sound Design 2018 - Off West End Awards.
Winner of Best Digital Project 2024 - Stage Awards (With Fire and Rage, interactive audio)
